Do you have a small bathroom that leaves you craving some extra space? There’s no question that cramped bathrooms can be a pain, but there are some things you can do to make yours feel more spacious and even give yourself a little extra room.

Remodel to Take Advantage of Space

If the layout in your bathroom isn’t quite right or doesn’t take advantage of the space in the room, consider remodeling it. You can simply add more storage space or rearrange fixtures for a whole new look.

This is the perfect time to make sure all your appliances work correctly. We specialize in remodeling and appliance and toilet repair on Long Island and can help you get your bathroom in excellent shape.

Let Some Sunlight In

A little extra sunshine can make your bathroom feel airy and open. You can take on a major project by adding a window or skylight, or you can work with the light you already have. Adjust the brightness and even color of the light bulbs and make sure you aren’t blocking out natural light.

Use a sheer curtain or just frost a small window so you can still have some privacy without sacrificing natural light.

Use Big Mirrors

Large mirrors have a way of making a room feel bigger and they reflect light in the room and natural sunlight that comes through the windows. Change out a smaller vanity mirror for a larger one or consider adding a large mirror as an accent that doubles as a functional piece.

Don’t let Clutter Take Over

Clutter makes any room feel smaller. Go through your bathroom and declutter as much as possible. Use containers, baskets and drawer organizers to corral hygiene and beauty items. If you need to, install a few shelves on the wall for some extra storage. Then, move anything that doesn’t need to be in the bathroom out.

Lighten up the Color Palette

Dark colors are notorious for making small rooms feel smaller. If you have dark colors in your bathroom, get rid of them! Paint the walls using lighter hues and use light colors for decor items like towels, artwork and countertop sets.

Go with light blues, greens, yellows or whites to make the room feel bigger. If you want some warmth, add some beige or use a darker color for small accents.

Blend Colors

As you lighten up your color palette, try a blending technique. Instead of using very different or contrasting colors, use colors in the same family or even the same color in different shades. For example, use several shades of blue for your paint and tile colors or use earthy tones throughout the whole room.

No matter how small your bathroom is, these tips can help it look and feel more spacious. If you would like to remodel your bathroom for more space, contact us. We specialize in bathroom remodeling and toilet repair on Long Island.
