Five Features that take Your Kitchen from Ordinary to Amazing

Making your kitchen something special, functional and beautiful doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, by adding or updating just one feature, you can drastically change the room. If you know your kitchen needs a change, but aren’t sure where to start, these tips are for you. Some of these you can easily take on yourself, for others you will need to contact a plumber on Long Island.

Adding a custom backsplash to the space behind your sink and between your cupboards and countertop is a simple way to add a pop of color and some added interest to your kitchen. With some tile, adhesive and grout you can design and install a backsplash that perfectly complements your kitchen. Go with a solid color, several colors or a pattern that uses the colors in the room or adds something new.

Bold Rugs

One of the easiest ways to update your kitchen is to lay down some bold rugs. Depending on how large your kitchen is, you can use a few different rugs of different sizes and shapes to define spaces. Put one next to your kitchen sink, one under your table and a long one in a high-traffic area. Rugs add warmth and softness and can help make a kitchen feel more luxurious.

Open Shelving

Open shelving is in right now, and when you add it to your kitchen you can make a big statement. Installing a new unit or attaching shelve to the wall is always an option. You can also easily update one of your existing cupboards by removing the door. You can cut out the middle panel and replace it with glass, or you can just remove the door and leave the shelves open. Add some lighting inside and arrange some accessories on the shelves to create a beautiful display.

Glitzy Light Fixtures

Have you ever noticed that one thing all designer kitchens have in common is amazing lighting? Update your kitchen by adding spotlights over your counters, installing a new light fixture or adding a hanging light over your island or table. Go with something trendy, and don’t be afraid to use a combination of lights to add depth and interest. Use lighting strategically to highlight certain features, like open cabinets, a bay window or a table.

Island

If your kitchen is large enough, consider adding an island. This feature is one that adds a lot of functionality to your kitchen, as you can prepare meals and even eat breakfast at it. It also serves to anchor the room and add something new to the area. Your island can be a simple countertop, include storage underneath or even have a sink in it.

These five features make it easy to take your kitchen from ordinary to something amazing. If your plans include altering your piping system or installing new appliances, contact us. We’re a plumber on Long Island that specializes in kitchen remodeling.
